Can I Stop Hospice Without Doctor’s Recommendation?
YES, you can!
Being scared of hospice is common as people believe it to be a death sentence.
Some people think that once they enroll in hospice care, they cannot stop it. However, this is not true. A PATIENT CAN choose to STOP receiving HOSPICE services whenever he wants, even without the permission of the doctor.
This is called revoking hospice!
While some patient chooses to stop hospice care because they want to start curative treatment again, others choose to revoke hospice because they want to undergo a surgery. Some people can even choose to revoke hospice to shift from one facility to another.
Whatever the reason may be, choosing hospice care and staying on one is always the patient’s choice.
However, remember that when a patient chooses to revoke hospice, they are also revoking the benefits offered by Medicare to hospice patients.
