To qualify for Hospice, you need to have a certification from your primary health care physician that you are terminally ill, with a life expectancy of 6 months or less.
Hospice Care Through Medicare
According to the NHPCO (National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization), 1.55 million Medicare beneficiaries received hospice care.
Hospice care is covered under Medicare Part (A) at 100%. So, there are no out-of-pocket expenses for the patient or the family members. To qualify, you need to have a certificate that certifies that you are terminally ill and have 6 months or less to live.
Medicare-certified hospice care is usually given in your home or other facilities where you live, like a nursing home.
So if you have Medicare, you pay nothing for hospice!
