How Long Does Medicare Pay For Hospice?
Medicare pays for hospice as long as the person qualifies for hospice care!
To qualify for hospice care, your primary physician and hospice doctor should certify that you are terminally ill and have a life expectancy of 6 months or less.
When you agree to take up hospice care, you are choosing comfort care instead of curative treatment to cure your illness.
Medicare-certified hospice care is often given out at the patient’s home or other facilities where the patient lives. So if you have Medicare, you are required to pay nothing out of your pocket for the care that you will receive.
However, choosing hospice care doesn’t mean that you are going to die within the next 6 months. Rather, it means, you will be reevaluated after 6 months to see if you still qualify. You can continue to get hospice care for as long as the doctor recertifies that you are still terminally ill.
