Is Hospice Care Right For Me?
How do I know if hospice care is right for me? Am I eligible? But what if I don’t want to stay on hospice?
When you are living with a terminal illness, you may want to learn more about the treatment options available to you. Hospice care might be right for you if you are living with a terminal illness and have less than 6 months to live. Serious illnesses often include but are not limited to:
- Heart disease
- Cancer
- Kidney disease
- Lung disease
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
You may choose to enroll in hospice care if the following statements stand true for you:
- You have a disease or injury that cannot be cured
- The doctor has certified that you have a life expectancy of less than 6 months
- You spend a majority of your day in bed
- You have made various trips to ER in the past few months
- You are feeling tired
- You need help with ADLs
- You have lost a lot of weight in the past 6 months
Hospice does not mean death is imminent. Hospice care help improve patient’s quality of life. Be proactive and ask your primary physician as many questions as you want regarding hospice care before you choose to enroll in one.
